Welcome to Penkford School.

Penkford is a day maintained special school for children with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties in the borough of St Helens, Merseyside. We cater for 55 young people from Year 4 to Year 11.

As you browse our website, you will note that we are an outward facing and highly innovative establishment.  The last ten years had seen a dramatic shift in the school population and year upon year we have developed the way in which we provide for our young people.  We believe ourselves to be a centre of excellence and good practice.

OFSTED 2010 said that Penkford is a ‘Good’ school with many ‘Outstanding’ features and you are able to read a full account on our website.

Most recently, we have achieved the Specialist Schools ‘Specialism Quality Mark’ for Leading and Transforming Learning.

We are proud of what we have achieved and it is our belief that the young people who are fortunate enough to attend Penkford have an educational experience that is second to none. 

Our young people have the opportunity to re-engage in the learning process, where for most, school has previously been an unpleasant experience.  Student attendance rates are high and this suggests a confirmation that the educational package we offer is meeting their needs.  Students achieve and attain well in an environment of enjoyment and mutual respect.

Each page of our website will show you the variety of opportunities which exist for the young people attending this school and for those we support within the mainstream sector through our Building Futures programmes.

Crucial to the development of our school in enhancing the educational opportunity for our young people is the developing range of external partners including local mainstream schools and businesses.  I am most appreciative of their support and I am hopeful that our future relationships will be mutually beneficial.
